Company History
The Credit Bureau of Vancouver Limited was founded by Thomas Downie and established
in Vancouver on October 21, 1921. Under the guidance of the Downie family, the company
has continued to operate for the past 80 years. The head office remains located in
Vancouver, with regional offices expanding across Canada.
The Credit Bureau of Vancouver operated with two distinct divisions, credit reporting
and account receivable recovery. Credit reporting was sold to Equifax in July 1998.
The Collection Division continues to be owned and operated by the Downie Family. CBV
Collection Services Ltd. is one of the largest Collection Agencies in Western Canada.
The privately held company is 100 percent Canadian owned.
CBV Collection Services Ltd. (hereafter referred to as CBV) has seen constant expansion
since the dissolution of its partnership with Equifax/Collectcorp in 1993. In 1994,
CBV opened offices in Victoria, Calgary and Edmonton, developing business relationships
all across Canada and the United States. Before the dissolution of its partnership,
the Collection Division was restricted to operating solely in the Greater Vancouver
area.
In 1997, CBV purchased the largest Commercial Collection Agency in BC, Creditel of
Canada Limited. The purchase of Creditel increased the strength and dominance of CBV
in the BC marketplace. CBV remains the largest collection agency for commercial business
in BC and throughout Western Canada.
With the continued development of its key client portfolios, CBV continues to increase
its operation. In the fall of 2000, CBV expanded into Central Canada, locating its
third branch in the downtown core of Toronto. This nation-wide coverage greatly improves
our collection effectiveness. We are growing!
At CBV Collection Services Ltd. we are setting our sights high for the future as we
continue on our 80 year old path in the Account Receivable Management and Collection
business.
